How to Import Questions from a Spreadsheet into Blooket

Table of Contents

How to import questions from a spreadsheet into Blooket saved me from retyping 50 questions manually. I had this massive Excel file of review questions from last year.

Though I’d have to enter each one individually. Then I found the import feature.

Why Use Spreadsheet Import

Look, if you’ve got more than 20 questions, manual entry gets old fast.

Spreadsheet import lets you:

  • Bulk upload dozens or hundreds of questions
  • Reuse content from previous years
  • Collaborate with other teachers who share spreadsheets

I use this every time I’m building comprehensive unit reviews.

Setting Up Your Spreadsheet

Open Excel, Google Sheets, or whatever spreadsheet tool you prefer.

You need four columns with these exact headers:

  • Question
  • Answer 1
  • Answer 2
  • Answer 3
  • Answer 4
  • Correct

Case doesn’t matter, but spelling does. No typos here.

Filling in Your Questions

Row by row, enter your content:

Question column gets the actual question text.

Answer columns get your four answer choices (or two for true/false).

Correct column gets the number of the right answer (1, 2, 3, or 4).

Example Spreadsheet Format

Here’s what a row looks like:

Question: “What is 7 x 8?” Answer 1: “56” Answer 2: “54” Answer 3: “48” Answer 4: “63” Correct: “1”

Simple as that. Repeat for every question.

Common Formatting Mistakes

Don’t merge cells. Blooket hates that.

Don’t skip rows between questions.

Don’t put extra headers or notes in your sheet—just the data.

I learned these the hard way when my first import failed spectacularly.

Saving Your File Correctly

Save as CSV (Comma Separated Values) or Excel format.

Both work fine, but CSV is cleaner.

In Google Sheets: File → Download → Comma Separated Values.

In Excel: Save As → CSV UTF-8.

Starting the Import Process

In Blooket, click “Create” then “Import.”

You’ll see options for different import methods.

Select “Import from Spreadsheet.”

Uploading Your File

Click “Choose File” and navigate to your saved spreadsheet.

Select it and hit “Open.”

Blooket will take a few seconds to process, depending on how many questions you’re uploading.

Reviewing the Import Preview

Blooket shows you a preview of what it’s about to import.

Check at least the first five questions to make sure everything mapped correctly.

Look for:

  • Questions appearing in the question field
  • Answers appearing in answer fields
  • Correct answer marked properly

If something looks wrong, cancel and fix your spreadsheet.

Fixing Import Errors

If Blooket throws an error, it’s usually because:

  • Column headers don’t match exactly
  • The “Correct” column has invalid numbers (like 5 when you only have 4 answers)
  • Special characters are breaking the import

Go back to your spreadsheet, fix the issue, save again, and retry.

Adding More Questions Later

Already imported a set but want to add more?

You can’t append via import (annoying, I know).

Either manually add questions or create a new import and merge Blooket question sets afterward.

Combining Import Methods

I often mix methods:

Import the bulk questions from my spreadsheet.

Then manually add 3-4 questions specific to this year’s lesson.

Then maybe import questions from Quizlet into Blooket if I find a good set there.

Organizing After Import

Once imported, your set appears in “My Sets.”

Immediately organize it into folders so you can find it later.

Check out how to organize Blooket question sets with folders for the full system.

Editing Imported Questions

Just because you imported doesn’t mean you’re locked in.

Click into any question and edit it like you created it manually.

I always tweak a few after importing to add images or adjust difficulty.

FAQ

What’s the maximum number of questions I can import at once?

Blooket can handle hundreds, but I recommend keeping sets under 100 for performance reasons.

Can I import images through the spreadsheet?

No, you’ll need to add images manually after importing.

Does the import work with Numbers on Mac?

Yes, just export as CSV first before importing to Blooket.

What if I have more than 4 answer choices?

Blooket only supports up to 4 answers per question—trim your options before importing.
